Brass Threaded Insert

At Gent Machine, we manufactured the threaded insert highlighted here for an injection molder that was producing an overmolded part for an automotive industry application. This project demonstrates our ability to create intricate features at high throughput rates while maintaining close tolerances, and it represents the type of work we do here on a daily basis.Designed for use in a vehicle air filtration system, this insert featured brass construction, internal threads, and knurled surfaces. Our multi-spindle Davenport lathes, which have the capacity to form multiple features simultaneously, allowed us to machine the parts from a single set up and at very high throughput rates while holding tolerances to ±.002 in. We also devised an automated assembly process to insert the O ring onto the machined parts.Real-time part measurements and SPC software continuously monitored production to ensure dimensional integrity and verify placement of the O ring. Additional quality assurance processes, such as optical comparisons, routinely took place right on our shop floor to further validate that the parts were in compliance with the specification.When completed, the insert featured dimensions of 0.973 in in diameter x 0.395 in in length. We released the first batch of parts to the customer in an eight week time frame, and current production is at the rate of 1.5 million annually.To learn more about this project or our expert machining capabilities, contact us today.
